CULI's staff attorneys teach "Building Urban Communities,"
a one-term class with one 2-hour seminar each Wednesday afternoon
with approximately eight hours a week of work on different
client projects. Each student is assigned three to five
projects, including an incorporation and application for tax-exempt
status and a real estate project for a nonprofit client. Students
attend client meetings, draft documents and take responsibility
for meeting the client's needs, working closely with the CULI
staff lawyers. Classes include overviews of nonprofit corporate structures,
real estate financing for nonprofits, conflicts of interest,
visiting lecturers speaking about their experiences with the nonprofit
world and reports from students about their projects.
